Honey Bee 05:19
Honey bee, I step around you carefully. Been here for a day or two. Other bugs are missing you. Please don't get upset, I've been avoiding it, It would break my heart To see you get violent. Sit and think of stinging things all day. Watching through the hole in the doorway. Ants in cups get put into the yard. Scoop me up and keep me in a jar. Down in the human nest, Not tasting sweetness. Without subtlety I feel empty. But that's not a test; That was said in jest. Hope you don't love me less. I know I haven't been my best.

Marquette 06:37
Got a show on a street that I once ran down Years ago while my roommates chased me around. Met a friend with a closet I could sleep in for a week or so until I feel like leaving. Introduced to a hazy, rainy girl. Living parallel lives in different worlds. Trading songs, dancing in the kitchen. She had prior plans, so I start to bargain. You'd be down to stick around, you need a ride to Work in the morning when the sun is dawning. I'd love to pick you up just so I can sit with you. Change of plans: I have to sleep where I stand. Don't know what to do, till you said I could stay with you. The guys drop lsd and stay up till 6:30. Creatively comfortable and dirty. I can't help but listen to the talking. The muffled bass drum feels like giants walking. No need to turn it off: just gonna sleep with the AC on. It took so long to Fall asleep and stay asleep, but it didn't bother you. It's not that I'm uncomfortable; in fact I'd say I Feel quite rested, albeit distant. I'm drawing out the moments when you roll all over me. I heard I might know the guy that she's been dating. He seems alright but he's never liked my playing. I should have left but I stayed an extra night By myself and I left on the light. Every time the fridge kicked on, I thought it was your Bedroom door scraping the floor and You were coming back to say that you had changed your mind.

I bought a guitar downstate. It's not easily played. It's got nicks in the neck and Buzzing frets and The more that you play it The worse that it gets. The neck pickup twists to the side, and the One by the bridge is barely alive, and it Lives in a corner covered in cables. I Lean it against my bedside table. It likes Quiet And it cries When it's loud. No you can't count On it To make Any sound. But it keeps ticking like an old clock. Flecks of dirt up on the headstock. See myself in the chipped paint. Heit Deluxe never complains. It sits there Silent And it writes In its head Finding notes and Patterns In the things That we said. But it keeps ticking like an old clock. Flecks of dirt up on the headstock. See myself in the chipped paint. Heit Deluxe never complains. One day I lost it, it got up and left to Find the potential inside of itself Or somebody stole it and then they sold it to Someone who knew how to truly control it Or I think it ran off and started a band with My autoharp and my mandolin. It grew tired of my room... A bitter inmate. In someone else's hands it'll sound great. I wonder what it could be In someone else's hands. (Someone who spent their time on it) (Someone who spent their time for it) No it wouldn't miss me In someone else's hands. (Someone who truly cares for it) (Someone who truly cares for it) You'd hear it really singing In someone else's hands. (Someone who wants to get better) (Someone who wants to get better) No I'll never fix it While it's in my hands. No I don't think that it's broken No I don't think that it's broken No I don't think that it's broken. I bought a guitar downstate, and I Should have just let it create. Give it a home, build it a nest, it would Get back to you if you just let it rest. It's not perfect for all that you do, but it Always tried to bring something new. I had to let it go. It didn't get far. Because I left it in the case in the front yard. But it keeps ticking like an old clock. Flecks of dirt up on the headstock. See myself in the chipped paint. Heit Deluxe never complains.

Experience 05:53
Hey man, Could you please define experience for me? One of us ain't using it correctly. Hey mister, I know I'm not the kind of guy you had in mind. I'm too much and not enough combined. Time spent Training for a job that I won't get. It was never real, a cruel college trick. I'm told That effort sets the applicants apart. Logging time in a standardized memoir. No one's waiting for me, But I feel so rushed. I know they'll just ignore me But I'll make it tough. I could put it down on paper But it's not enough And as it leaves my hands I watch it turn To dust. Junk mail: Get piles of it every single day. Keep it shut and just throw it away. Down here Buried under flyers, notes, and trash Is a beating heart that slithered it's way past. Nine tracks Unsolicited pieces of a soul. Something missing and I can't fill the hole. Spew praise At people that I couldn't pay to care. Unrequited love for a sonneteer.

Fine 05:57
I Want the sun to never end So I can keep My fair-weather friends. I never wonder how you're doing Because I know you're doing fine. But I still can't believe We made it out alive. I'll take a second and look you up online. I'd never drop a line or write you, But a text or two seems fine. I wouldn't say I don't think about you. It happens all the time. But it's been a while since I've looked you in the eyes. I hate feeling inconvenient And that line is very fine. If there's not a cloud in sight We could take a walk outside Or we could stay inside and live our separate lives.

about

BASKETPUSHER is a group of songs that I wrote in Michigan while working as an adjunct. I wanted to put together a group of "dream pop" tunes that change and stay unpredictable as the song progresses. Essentially, I just wanted to keep returning to familiar patterns but find new ways to approach those patterns.
